If you work with Photoshop or even Flash, you may have worked with masks. Masks, or mattes as they’re referred to in Final Cut Pro/Express, are a way of hiding or showing parts of an image, or in the case of FCP/E, video.
Sometimes, this effect is called picture-in-picture, but whatever you call it, to accomplish it, you’re going to need to use a matte/mask of some kind. In this video, I’ll walk you through how to use an 8-point garbage matte. This technique will work in both Final Cut Pro and Final Cut Express. Even though I don’t specifically cover it in this video, Premiere Pro also has garbage mattes to accomplish the same task.
