enabling WordPress multisite

WordPress has a way to create multiple blogs and sites from one installation, it’s called multisite. It allows you to create a network of WordPress sites that can share themes, plugins, and widgets. You can create the new blogs and sites as either subdirectories or subdomains.

In the first video, I’ll walk you through how to enable WordPress multisite. In the second video, I’ll do a quick overview of creating new sites/blogs once multisite is up and running.

extending WordPress roles

WordPress has 5 built in user roles, Administrator, Editor, Author, Contributor, and Subscriber. These roles usually cover most needs, but you may have a need to allow users to edit existing pages/posts and create new content, but you may want to allow a site administrator to review those pages/posts before publishing them. You can add that functionality and more using the Wonder Twin plugins Role Scoper and Revisonary.

This video will walk you through what these plugins do, and how to configure them.

In the past 4 weeks, several Media Temple clients have been reported having their WordPress installations hacked. The cause of the hacks is inconclusive. Media Temple is blaming their customers for not having secured their WordPress installations. Their customers are blaming Media Temple, especially since this sort of widespread hacking was aimed at Media Temple users last year as well.
